Anxiety and fear of seperation

by Ann, Apr 28, 2000 12:00AM
My daughter is a high anxiety child, she is 5 years old and worries about everything. She has been ok going to school but recently has started throwing tantrums and getting very angry when we mention going to school. She is also showing signs of ocds.

Dear Ann,

This is not a time of year when children normally begin to show signs of distress in relation to school. Your daughter's behavior indicates she is unsettled by some development(s) at home and/or in school. What has changed in her situation? Have there been unsettling occurrences? Have there been any tragedies, separations, losses, disruptions? What is she saying to you? What seems to be the matter? See if you can discover what has her worried.

Consider a consult with a school guidance counselor or a child mental health professional to help you assess the situation and develop a plan of action.
