Auspergers/PDD/Autism

by givzig, May 11, 2001 12:00AM
My nephew is being tested for Auspergers/PDD/Autism and I am 4.5 months pregnant with our first child.  During our level II ultrasound the tech (we are awaiting the doctor appt. to discuss it with our doctor) told us the ventricles in the brain were average size but something (I forget what) that encases them were larger and this had a 10% chance to leading to emotional/learning problems if it did not correct itself before the baby was born.  Could Auspergers/PDD/Autism be the reason for this?  Is Auspergers/PDD/Autism hereditary?  My husbands family doesn't know a lot of medical history and I am now worried for this newborn and want to be prepared.

Thanks you for any help you can give me.

Yes, Pervasive Developmental Disorder-spectrum conditions are neurointegrative phenomena, and because of this they have a hereditary component. However, your ultrasound findings themselves are not indicative of any likelihood of Asperger's, Autism, or other PDD-type disorders.
