Biting

My son just turned one on January 3rd and has been biting since he was about 8 months. The biting usually only happens at daycare, but its usually the same situation every time. A baby is laying on the floor and he always goes for the face. I was told yesterday that the next time he bites he is going to be dropped from daycare, AT ONLY 1 YEAR!!! What can I do? He never bites at home so how can I teach him its not appropriate? Help!

Since they do not have the ability to express themselves with words at that age, they bite and hit, etc.
My DD is 16 months old and she too is a biter.  She is also a hitter and a grabber.  But on the opposite end of the spectrum, she is a kisser and a hugger and a snuggler.
I know when she get angry she bites.  When she gets excited she bites and grabs and so on and so forth.
I try not to day NO too much as I fear that if she contibuously hears that word she will begin to drown it out so I use words like GENTLE and DO NICE and AW... you get my point.
Teach him that it's not acceptable by showing him what TO do not just what NOT to do and accept that it's part of his learning how to express himself.  As his language develops, his expressions will naturally change.
It's quite normal but the fact that a daycare center is leading you to believe that it's not coupled with the fact that they are threatening drop him for it is a serious indicator (IMO)that perhaps you need to find yourself another daycare STAT.  One that understands children a bit more and who are willing and able to work with them to teach them how to behave in a gentle and loving manner.
