Blinking Eye

Blinking Eye

My 6, nearly 7 year old son has developed an excessive eye blinking problem.  He has it very breifly about 5 years ago after my daughter was born and again about this time last year.  Instead of blinking "normally" he really screws up his eye lids and will sometime blink like that 5 - 6 times in a row.  I have taken him to my GP who says he thinks it is some type of allergy and has put him on eye drops.  I am concerned incase it is stress related, although he is a very happy boy and nothing has happened at home or school to make him stressed, he is a worrier - I have talked to him about it, but don't like to bring it up too much as it makes him upset.  Do you have any suggestions as to what it may be.  Eye drops don't seem to be working, although he has only been on them a few days??

There's a couple of things I'd suggest. My son also had the eye blinking when he was around 9 or 10. We finally found out that he needed glassesw when he was 11. He never told us that he had trouble reading the board at school! So, the first thing I'd do is get his eyes checked.
He may also have trouble with dry eyes or allergies. My son also had a lot of allergies that we got checked out. We started out with the allergy pills and flonase and moved to the allergy shots a few years later, which helped a lot! Have your doctor refer you to an allergist and get him tested. Then see if there's anything that he can safely take for his age, like maybe children's clariten. That's where I'd start. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for your reply.  He had his eyes checked about 4 months ago, and that was all clear.  Am going back to see doctor this afternoon, by myself as it's hard discussing it with my son there as I feel he may get upset - am going to push for something to happen.  Thanks

Is he aware of his unusual eye blinking episodes while they are occurring?  Is he able to stop if he is asked to?
