Boy that has voiding problem when going to bathroom - leaking on underwear

by Amy1973, Mar 23, 2007 12:00AM
Does anyone have the problem where they child (I have a boy) leaks before and or after they empty their bladder.  My doctor told me to put him on the toliet and have him set for 2 minutes.  This is very hard he is very active 3 year old boy.  I stay at home with him and I try to have him go every 2 hours like recommened.  Just wanted to know if anyone has other ideas.  When this stopped for them?  What tricks they used.

We have taken away favorite toys when he waits to long and does not go.  This works a little but he is still wetting a little in pants.  He does wait a little long and holds it when he doesn't need too.  I try to stop but nothing seems to stop it.

Afraid surgery or medication is only thing that might help.

Any idea?

Amy,  I can't imagine what surgery or medication you might use that will correct a boy who doesn't want to go to the bathroom.  I think this is pretty typical of boys that age,  to not want to stop what they're doing to go to the boring old bathroom.

You are right but this really isn't fully the case.  I have seen the doctor and he has given me details how voiding disfunction is when the child might have a small or large bladder that is not voiding or completly emptying once they use the bathroom or the bladder cannot hold it all in and leaks.  It's really not the case of an accident.

He also might only empty the bladder a little bit allowing a little in, and the bladder will release it on its own a few minutes later.

The goal is to keep him on the potty for 2 minutes so if it leaks, it leaks on the potty.

There is some type of medication that can be used to help this?  Not sure hope I don't get to this point.

There is also some type of surgery.  This can also cause sometype of damage to the kidney's the doctor said.  Don't need this.  So this case that I am talking about is a voiding problems where his body contacts to urine and stops the flow.  Something that he has done since he was potty trained and I need to uncondition him.  Just wanted idea other people have tired to help their child.

I think that I'd try gradually increasing the time between voidings. You have him go every 2 hours now, try 3 for a few days then 4. It may help stretch the bladder a little and possibly help out. I hope this helps out a little bit.
