Our 3 1/2 year old refuses to take her liquid antibiotic. She sometimes will take it a few times and then refuse. If she refuses and we force her to take her medication she will then throw it up. She seems able to throw up almost at will. Any suggestions on what we should try or do?
Mixing the medication with a soft food such as applesauce or yogurt or pudding might be helpful. But be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure the particular antibiotic can be used in such a fashion. Because of absorption issues, some medicines have to be taken on an empty stomach, and there can be interaction effects with certain foods or liquids.
