Child touching feces

My 6 year old son will touch and smear his feces on occasion. When I asked him about it he said he liked the way it felt on his finger tips. Is this normal? How do I encourage him to stop? Is this an indication that something else is wrong? He is a very serious and emotional child, who becomes easily frustrated. Help!

I really think this is behavior I have often seen in 2 year olds, not six. I would address this with maybe certain toys that fell different like play doh. I would what him when he is in the bathroom and make sure he wipes himself. I know you can't be with him at all times when he is in the bathroom but you could start out there and build trust and give incentives etc.  
As for the serious and emotional child so of that is normal, they go from being protected in kindergarden to being thrown out with the wolves in 1st grade, it's scary and you need to reassure him and spend extra time with him and praise him when he does things right. talk to him.
