Circulation

My daughter who just turned 12 yrs old pointed out to my wife and I the other night how blue her hands get on certain occassions.  For example,  inside the house may be 70 degrees and she is not cold but here hands are blue or lavender in color.  Very noticable.  She says that they do not tingle or have any pain.  I'm just curious if the Clariton she takes on a daily basis (for alergies (allergies))has anything to do with it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dear Mr. Youngblood,

This Forum really focuses on matters of child behavior, not medical conditions. Nonetheless, your daughter may be displaying a problem with the small blood vessels that supply blood to the skin. The condition is called Raynaud's Phenomenon; it results in constriction of the small blood vessels. Whatever the case, discuss this with your daughter's pediatrician. Even if it is Raynaud's Phenomenon, consideration needs to be given about whether this is primary Raynaud's or secondary to some other medical problem/condition.
