Daytime wetting 8 year old

by jaceylynn, Feb 06, 2008 02:12PM
My 8 year old step-daughter is wetting herself approximately 2-3x a week.  She does not wet the bed at night.  She has recurrent UTIs and we see an increase in retention issues when she has one, but she wets herself even when she is infection free.  Her doctor says she "checks out" medically but hasn't helped up further than this.  She tends to wet herself when she plays outside (even after emptying her bladder before going out.)

A bigger concern is that she doesn't seem to care about the ramifications of smelling or wetting herself in school.  She is not upset and does not seem to care that it is an issue.

What can we do?

my 10 yo son has the same problem (wetting his pants during the day) and also doesn't care about the ramifications of odor...etc. we've tried everything. Have you gotten any feedback? I've also been to the pediatrician and all the bloodwork seemed to have checked out.

I've heard about this condition, although I've never had to deal with this yet. I believe that children will eventually outgrow this and start to care once they hit closer to teenage age. I certainly hope that this doesn't last this long. It certainly doesn't hurt to get things checked out as well. I have a nephew who does this but his mom says that he only seems to do this when playing video games or watching t.v. She is having him tested for epilepsy. This is because it runs in our family and my eldest son is epileptic. Sometimes children just forget that they have to go to the bathroom. They get so involved in what they're doing that they don't feel anything. Good luck in your process of finding out answers. It can take a really long time. Just hang in there. You'll eventually be able to see the end of the tunnel.
