Deaf and Balance Problems

by Summertime706, Jul 21, 2008 09:20AM
My son is deaf with severe balance problems. We are waiting on a detailed MRI but so far we have no indication of a cause. Our understanding is that it is sometimes very difficult to diagnose certain problems like enlarged vestibular aqueducts or other malformations of the vestibular system that can cause both problems. My son was born hearing and lost his hearing shortly thereafter. It sounds like your child's problems began before cochlear implantation, and I am interested in finding out about how children who had these balance problems faired with cochlear implant surgery. If anyone has experience with that, I'd love to hear more.

This discussion is related to 4 year old deaf child w/ cochlear impant and sensory intergration dysfunction.
