Developmental delays(cont)

Hi I forgot to also say that my almost 5yr. cannot dress herself.
She can take off pants but has great deal of trouble with her shirt.  She can put on pants if you lay them out but can't put on a shirt, coat, or shoes.  She can put socks on although they are sometimes up sidedown. She cannot put a zipper together or button or unbutton,or begin to tie anything.
Thanks

A good website to go to is www.med.umich.edu/1lib/yourchild/devmile.htm.  This should give you a good idea of the basic dev. milestones and you could use this to take to your daughter's doctor.  Evals by an OT, PT and speech therapists would be able to give you a place to start by knowing what activities to address.  Are you involved with the public school system because they can provide services for children prior to Kindergarden age?  Contact your special services coordinator in your school district and ask them to eval your child for public school services.  They will screen in the vision, hearing, speech and cognition areas.  If they find they are unable to obtain results for vision and hearing, they are obligated to refer to a specialists at _NO_ cost to you.  A good site to go to so that you will know what your rights are, is www.ldonline.org and www.reedmartin.com.  I hope these will be helpful.  If you do not have good medical coverage, look into the different medicaid programs in your state.  As you are pursuing the evals, you may want to check into SSI benefits thru the Social Security Administration ( this does have an income criteria). If you are overincome, see if your state has Katie Beckett or TEFRA medicaid.  This does not look at the family's income.  I work with children with developmental delays and I have a child who is ADHD and bipolar.  I understand how important it is to try and find help for a child.  I hope this helps and you have good luck!  Remember you as a parent are the best person to know your child.
