Disturbing Drawing

My 9 year old son drew a picture of a boy holding a gun.  The bubble over his head is saying "I am so sad that my dad has passed away"   Then in another bubble, the boy in thinking "I am going to put myself with my father in heaven".  My son is the youngest of 3 children.  My husband and I and all 3 children live together.  Nobody is sick.  I'm very concerned since I have never seen a drawing like this from him before.  Not sure what this means.  I asked him about the picture, he said "everyone was drawing scary pictures for halloween and I drew a scary picture too".  Am I over-reacting to this?  He doesn't have any violent video games (only sports games).  Not sure where this came from.  He is very close to his father...  but he said the picture isn't of him, it was of a boy.  Please give me some guidance.  Thank you

I also think so it could be something he has seen on TV or the computer, vet them to check what he is viewing and there may have been talk amongst boys of this age ,could his older siblings have been saying anything ?

How creative is he in general, and how empathetic?  It's possible that a really creative kid could invent this scenario, or hear about it at school, and draw it up as a way to process the thought harmlessly.
