Disturbing Drawings

My nephew is 9 years old and he has been drawing some disturbing pictures lately. In these pictures he has drawn himself being killed such as being hanged and so forth. He has been drawing these pictures in school and has been reported by the teacher. His parent are blowing it off even though the school has reccomended counseling. Should this just be ignored or should I take steps to get him the counseling needed and if so how do I go about it since the parents refuse? There are some underlying issues with his mother that may be the reason he is acting this way, but he will not say because he is terrified of his mother.

Have you talked with your nephew's school counselor?  Most school systems have them available and are qualified to work with the child at school for most situations.

It sounds to me he may have issues or fears of being hurt.  My 12 yr. old grandson was drawing pics of his abuse for several years prior to it coming to light.

I hope you can get the help for him he needs.

Have you contacted Childrens Services to investigate any abuse?

Also, try to spend as much quality time alone with him and build his confidence that you will protect him and he just might confide in you what is really going on once he feels safe.

Good Luck and God Bless

Probably not much you can do except make yourself available to the boy- I am an aunt and I would like to think I have helped my niece at several  life changing times of her life.... and she still won't talk to her mother- Pray for guidance and wisdom
