Does he have dyspraxia

I have just been told that my 8 year old son is displaying symptoms of dyspraxia. Last year the school said that he may have slight autistic tendencies but nothing was done on either side but the school did make him sit with one of the girls so that he can focus more which he has been doing. My son has aced his reading, writing and maths papers and his teacher said that he is 1 level higher for his age. In addition, he plays football and frequently is the man of the match. The school feels that he needs to be assessed for dyspraxia as he is poor in following instructions sometimes and is quite sensitive. He loves puzzles, reading, drawing and can colour within lines. I am confused and wondering if I should have him assessed as it would cost me a lot of money. The school does not provide an free service. Help!

The description you offer would not immediately lead me to consider dyspraxia, unless the teacers mean that he is unable to plan or execute coordinated movements (when they comment that he has difficulty following instructions). I suggest you ask more questions about why they suspect dyspraxia in particular.
