Does my son have Asperger's Syndrome?

It has been suggested to us that our 7 year old son may have Asperger's Syndrome. We are waiting for appointments with a Psychiatrist and the School Psychologist to find out for sure. He was diagnosed with ADHD and a mood disorder at the age of 5. Based on the following concerns, is it possible that our son may have Asperger's:
•Throws temper tantrums when he does not get his own way.
•Extreme shifts in mood. Easily gets angry or sad when something does not go his way.
•Obsessed with video games, especially those involving Star Wars and/or Legos.
•Lying to parents or teachers regarding school work.
•Inability to maintain focus.
•Talks incessantly and doesn’t seem to care if anyone is listening or not.
•Talks at a loud volume. Does not seem to understand when we ask him to whisper, he just continues talking loudly.
•Often plays beside children, while seeming to be in his own world.
•When he does engage children in play it’s usually rough where they’re chasing, wrestling or tickling.
•Does not share accomplishments with others.
•Often stares off into space while other children around him are talking to each other. When he does talk with other children it is often one sided. He does not seem to care what they have to say.
•Over-sensitivity to pain.
•Clumsy, poor eye hand coordination.

Yes, it is possible, though most of the symptoms you describe are really not indicative of Asperger's Disorder. The likelihood is that he displays overlapping conditons involving mood, attention, sensory integration and attachment. You are doing the right thing by arranging the evaluation. It is unusual for a child of five to have carried a diagnosis of mood disorder, but at this point his mood dysregulation does seem to be a legitimate component of what is occurring.
