Early puberty

by Amy, Feb 12, 2001 12:00AM
My daughter is 5 years old (almost 6), and about 6 months ago she started to have underarm odor. It's not everyday, but we are very concerned about this. She taller than average, but many children in her kindergarten class are bigger than she is. Could this be early signs of puberty? And if it is, what should we do? She has also been very moody and negative about almost everything for the past few months-we thought it was because she started kindergarten. Thank you:) Amy

Generally, precocious puberty in girls is characterized by breast development prior to the age of eight, or menstruation prior to the age of ten. So it is likely that your daughter's symptom is not a sign of early puberty, but be sure to discuss this with her pediatrician.

I am doing a research paper on Early Puberty. I was wondering if you had any useful information for me that I could use in my paper. Mainly I need info on the symptoms and the causes that come along with early puberty.

Thank you
