Hi.  If your child has been in daycare there have probably been developmental test that every child gets as a baseline(at least in fl) These are not really to point out  a delay so much as see where your child is developmentally, in language, fine motor, gross motor, socially and emotionally, and so on.  There is a baseline for each area of development for chronological age.   The daycare is required by the state, so that the teacher can target the children's emerging skills, they may be behind in one area or ahead in another, however if you child is falling behind to a point of concern, I believe that you are
made aware and assisted on where to find help.    I am sure every state requirement is different.  But if you have a specific concern about development you should start looking for  support, and get information.  By five children should recognize some of the alphabet, be able to write there name as well as recongnize "sigh"t words.  This is what the VPK program does- prepares children for kindegarten.

I am not sure what you are actually looking for in an answer---are you asking about behavior or social or eduactional development.  My son just turned five and I can see a change in him already for behavior purposes...he thinks not that he is five he should be able to do certain things by himself.  I do see hemi becoming more independent from me---but at times he is still so much a little child that needs his mom and dad to tell him what he can and can not do....but he is also becoming more advanced in play--such as playing by himself more--but then being able to play games and understand what must be done to win and not get to mad when he loses at a game.  I am a firm believer in not letting my kids win all the time....it makes taking losing so much easier when they are in a social setting.  I hope I was able to touch on a few points, but if this was not your question please let me know.
