Grandson does want his grandma any more

Hi,
My grandson and I have had a very close relationship since his birth.  I always have made myself available to him when I'm not working, usually in the evening.  He has been really attached to me.
Recently, a week ago, my son and his family went on a trip for 1 night stay at a hotel.  My grandson, 3 yrs 9 months old, called me with help from his mom.  He was begging me to come to him now in my car, right now I need you here, he kept saying Grandma come now I need you over and over.  He was distressed, and would not stop pleading for me to come to him.  He then asked for his Grandpa and began pleading with him to come to him.  He kept saying that he lives there now and that he needed us to come to where he is.
Heart breaking.  His dad told him this is where we are living for the night.  But he heard this is where we are living.

Since their return home he wants nothing to do with me.  He'll go his grandpa, who is home often during the day, but not me.
I will not force him to send time with me, I just try to interact with him as he allows.

I'm not sure if this matters or not, but I also was on vacation for 10 days at the beginning of June.

I just don't understand his reaction.

Thank you for taking time to reply.
I'll do just that.  This relationship is on his terms not mine.  So I'll will follow his lead.

Kind of sounds like he went on a trip to a new and strange place and freaked out.
At his age, give him a bit of time, and I would think that things will return to normal.  A big batch of cookies might help?   I feel for you though.  This is tough to go through.
