Grandson

We took our grandchildren on vacation , we did so many fun things with them.
My 7 yr old grandson has ADHD and is on medication for this problem( I do not know the names but he takes two different types one in morning and one in afternoon.
While we were there we had two really bad episodes of extreme anger. This one episode a phone call from his father got disconnected when the phone was handed to him,he became irrational blamed his sister would not listen to us we tried to reason with him but it was to know avail. He screamed banged doors totally out of control.
The second episode was when I wanted him to take a shower because he was smelling ( he still wets the bed at night) I originally had said to my husband they can take their showers tomorrow (he overheard me) but then I saw he feet were really dirty and I could smell his bottom threw his pants. So I said to him let's take a shower because I can smell you.He came back with an aggressive NO!!! I still tried to talk with him but did not help. Then I attempted to take his clothes off.Well he nearly pulled the shower curtain and rod off the wall and kicked and screamed.
I have never seen this kind of anger from a child before. I just did not know what to do. His sister called his parents. His father said to him oh poor ----- talked to him like he was a baby and made it sound like it was my fault.
Then his mother got on the phone and was mor reasonable and explained to him that when a Grammy tells you to take a shower even when she changes her mind he should. She also explained that we love him very much and knows what is best for him.
What a grandparent to do ?

It sounds like both of these things happened after his meds wore off.  And with ADHD kids, its not unusual for that to happen.  And, he is only 7 and might have had a very tiring day, etc.   But you wouldn't know that unless, you have been reading up on ADHD.  And that is what you can do.  Working with an ADHD kid is different.  I know - I am the CL on the ADHD forum and have worked with ADHD kids for years, and years, and years.
Here is a starting link dealing with anger and ADHD kids.  I think you will find it helpful - http://www.additudemag.com/slideshow/74/slide-1.html
I have lots more info if you are interested.  Best wishes.

I think that you gave the grandmother so very good advice, so I will not write another "answer."  I'm new to this site but I have a son (now 17).  He was diagnosed at a very early age (4) with ADHD.  The anger and raging came a year or two later and I dragged my son to so many psychiatrists and psychologists and got so many different diagnoses with bipolar disorder being the most "popular."  He was taken OFF of his ADHD meds-the feeling being that the bipolar had to be addressed first.  He became more angry and the boatload of anti-psychotics did not help him.  It wasn't until he was 10 that I finally found a wise psychiatrist who explained to me that ADHD is on a spectrum and my son was not in the area where it's just inability to focus.  The proof was when he was put back on ADHD medication-an extended release one and a short-acting one in the am (to get him going without anger) and another at the end of the day as the extended release one was wearing off. The meds have to be tweaked as he has grown but the anger is far. far less (and usually only occurs when a pill has been forgotten to be taken).

Thank you for your post.  In your case, I as so glad you found a psyc that perhaps was a bit ahead of the rest.  Now, (hopefully) it is a bit more common for psyc's to realize that anger is a part of the ADHD.   Anyway, a link here that you might find useful or if nothing else validation for what you are doing.
