Growth delay

Growth delay

My son will be 12 years old in January.  He weighed 9lbs. 6 oz. at birth.  He was in the 90% in height until age 3.  At that time he began having stomach problems that the pediatrician blamed on constipation.  At age 8, we finally got a correct diagnosis from a pediatric uroligist.  He had a kink in the ureter, the tube that drains from the kidney to the bladder.  We had it surgically repaired immediately.  During those years, his growth slowed and is now in the 15% in height.  I might add that at age 6, he had mononucleosis. The doctors tell me the kidney problem, nor the mono. has anything to do with the growth delay.  We had a bone scan last year, and it showed his "bone age" 2 years behind his chronological age.  What does that mean?  Should we take him to a endocronologist?

Dear Michelle,

Unfortunately, this Forum is meant to address issues about childhood behavior, not so much about strictly medically-based conditions. I'm simply not qualified to reply with the sort of expertise you deserve.
