Guidance

Hi, I have a 20 year old son. I'm constantly worried about his future. He doesn't seem to care or think towards his future. All he seems to think about is being with his girlfriends and his friends. He worries more about going out and having fun then thinking about university or getting a course. He has not finished his high school due to math difficulties. I don't know if he really has difficulties in math or just doesn't want to work. He has always passed all is other classes without much studying but since math requires more work he puts it aside. I have given him lots of chances and this year I told him he was going to find a job, finish his math and see about his future.

Is this a fase that he is going through? He's polite and well behaved towards others but what worries me is that he mas no motivation. I don't know what he thinks of his future. I can't talk to him anymore because he doesn't want to listen to me anymore I don't know what to do. Please advise.

Thank you.

Your son is 20 years old.  He is an adult.  His future is his problem.  Going out and having fun costs money as does rent, utilities and food.  If he isn't in school, then he should be "supporting" himself by finding a place of his own or paying "room and board".  I think it is time to change the "rules" in your home.  Maybe it is time for you to devote more space, time and money to pursue your interests.  He probably won't grow up until he has to.
