I am 14 years old and i have been battling lice for almost a year. A YEAR. My mom can't find anything that works. I had gotten it from summer camp last summer. We have tried RID, Quitnits, mayo, everything. They just won't go away. I am the only in the house who has, and it's embarrassing. My mom has sat with me for hours trying to get nits out. They just won't go away. Someone please help. I'm desperate.

i know this is an old post but just want to mention the Robi battery powered lice comb has been the most effective treatment my family has found. when my daughter came home from school with lice I went to the school and recommended they buy them for the nurses station as they can treat kids for live live and send them back to class. As long as you treat them each day for a week you will catch all newly hatched babies before they are large enough to lay eggs. The school officials thanked me for that suggestion and have been recommending them to parents. Our daughter has not come home with lice since.

I fought the lice battle with my daughter to the point of tears and a lot of money spent. I was told to use 2 drops of Tea Tree Oil in clear Sauve Shampoo and continue use and they won't get lice again. It was like a miracle!!

Just a few quick things.  First, these so-called "super bugs" have been around for longer than people are willing to admit.  Lice is rampant in most schools now and most of the chemicals that have been used for years no longer work.  I stumbled upon a cheap remedy for these nasty little buggers when my now grown children were in grade school.  I seemed to be getting a call at least once a month about it, it got expensive, and I was just sick and tired of it.  One day after I had to get them from school I started to wonder if there was anything else that would help.  I decided to pull out a live bug and put it in some peroxide, because I thought it might somehow kill them.  Needless to say, it didn't.  Then I grabbed some 70% isopropyl alcohol and dropped a live one in a capful.  To my elation, it instantly killed the bug!!  It was at that moment that I called poison control to make sure that there was no way it could do my kids any harm by spraying alcohol on their heads.  Once I was told no, I stared to figure out how to do this effectively.  This is also the cheapest remedy for those nasty little critters.
Go to the dollar store and buy a spray bottle and disposable shower caps.  Then go to a store that sells 70% isopropyl alcohol (it MUST be at least 70%), and a metal nit comb.  Before you go to bed saturate your hair with the alcohol (using the spray bottle) on CLEAN hair, put the shower cap on, then go to bed and go to sleep.  My kids had a 9:00 bed time and they got up for school at 7:00, and I'm telling you this because not only did it kill the bugs, but it also killed the eggs as well as making them easier to get off of the hair.  The eggs didn't change color after they were dead, but I believe that is because the egg didn't hatch and the bug was still in the egg.
I also advise you to hold a folded wash cloth over your eyes (to keep the alcohol from getting in them) and over the face (like a doctor mask), or use a mask if you have one to help from being overwhelmed by the odor of the alcohol, and also because it can take your breath away.
I hope this helps you and anyone else who might need it.

My daughters have very thick long hair and Head lice was horrible!!  I started out with the shampoos and combing their hair and it was still hard to get rid of.  I actually got there doctor to prescribe them something, it was a cream that we left on all night, I washed all their bedding and brushes and combs, and we haven't had any problems again.

Slather with cheap conditioner tie up with 2 grocery bags and leave on all night ONCE a week for FOUR weeks.  in the morning comb through every section of hair THREE times. Rinse out conditioner. Apply lemon oil to scalp inbetween conditioning treatments. They will all suffocate...its the only way. Good luck

absolutely everything, and i mean everything, needs to be cleaned. worse case scenario you might need to move, at least temporarily, until the problem is taken care of.

This happened to my friend's kids a few years ago.  She had to wash everything (bedding, clothing, towels), and I guess using the special shampoo and comb wasn't effective enough, because all of the kids had to have their hair cut.  Best of luck to you.

Hey,
Im 14 and recently noticed that i have lice. Im currently using lice killing shampoo but they dont go away! Im guessing that the lice eggs dont get killed from the shampoo, its been almost 2 weeks. I'm a boy with long hair and i really dont want to cut it off :(. I have even sat with my mom for atleast 5 hours as she picked out the hairs with little nits on it, i dont see how the combs would work on the eggs because they are pretty much glued on the hair! HELP!!!!!

When I was a little younger than you, the same thing happened to me. What I did was fine comb my hair every night, wash my hair every night, and pull nits off every night. It was terrible, but I got rid of them. When you shampoo your hair don't rinse it immediately. Let the shampoo smother the buggers, if possible. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I used old-fashioned castile shampoo, which is a soap, not a detergent.

Hi,
We have had lice in our school periodically and there stores that specialize in getting rid of lice. Over here we have Bug-a-lugz but you probably have some locally. A trip to them will take care of your lice. Hope that helps.

Everything has to be washed in hot water, bedding, towels, clothes, and the nasty little critters don't like being disturbed so you have to comb all the time, with a metal tooth comb, wash all the time, long hair is hardest so keep it as short as you can .perhaps at your age you don't hair color but that also helps .
