HELP

by freckles08, Sep 20, 2008 09:47PM
My 7 1/2 year old grandon is repeatly asking the same question over & over - "are you mad at me" "do you love me" "do you know I'm only joking". He also blurts out silly things and then keeps on telling you over & over how he was only joking. It seems like when he thinks of something he has to tell you instantly, he interupts all the time, he mumbles to himself, he talks non stop until he goes to sleep. He works at a grade 2 level in school even though he's just started grade 3. This behaviour just started 4 month ago.

He has a wonderful mother & father who are very worried and are hoping it is a phase.  But, I see something that is just not right.

I am hoping with this information you may be able to give me an idea of where to go from here.

Lynn

I am interested in what he is mumbling- for instance if it is repetitive of something he hear earlier in the day- this is a symptom of a disorder

the other sounds like the need for constant reassurance which does not USUALLY fit unless there are a little bit of emotional problems

talking non stop- or just talking A LOT?

record/ journaling as one of the posters on here suggests so often will probably be helpful here.... see what happens directly prior to the questioning. Is it when he is watching tv? when he is on the computer? when he is not engaged with these things? when his parents are around maybe it happens more? or less?
