I have a friend whose daughter just turned 10. She can be as sweet and nice as the next 10 year old. However, in a split second, she can explode all over the place. She is extremely demanding of her mom's attention all the time. No one can come into her mom's life without this child throwing a majorMajor tears Major-gesic fit. When her mom shows any attention to another person besides her daughter, then the child goes ballastic. The child is in therapy. It is difficult for her to get schoolPreschooler development Preschooler test Preschooler test or procedure preparation School age child development School age test or procedure preparation School-age children development work done. Her mom struggles at times. Her mom is taking her to outpt. therapy. It's not like she doesn't have access to help her daughter or isn't informed on how to help. I see her mom's emotional pain when dealing with her daughter. Would this child benefit from medications? Can a 10 year old be diagnosed with BPD? Is therapy the only option?
If there was a gathering with a couple of her friends, and their moms, would she stand there by her mother and scream at the other mothers for attention?
A diagnosis of BiPolar Disorder and medication seems to be jumping the gun here.
