How to potty train a stubborn 3 year old girl

Okay so we've tried everything possible....................Nothing Is working!
we've done cheap dollar store toys wrapped up in tissue paper she could pick one if she would go potty
we've done no pull ups......Big girl panties, ride the toliet backwards like a pony.
we've left the issue alone.
She's currently in a day care where they help to potty train.  It's not working for them either.
She knows what she's doing and when she's doing it...just refuses to go on the potty.  She's almsot 4 years old and her bowel movements are becoming more and more adult every day.  She is above average size for her age ( her dad is very tall ) so she is in the last size they make in pull ups and those are starting to get tight on her.  I'm going to have to put her in adult diapers if I can't potty trian her soon.  

Yes I am a full time working mom with two kids my youngest is 7 months, so having two in diapers is very expensive.  I keep telling her..... her little brother is going to win the potty race.  She doesn't care, I can obviously smell her when she's gone # 2 and I tell her get me a pull up so she can be changed she says no mommy I like to be stinky.  I figured there would be an issue when my son was born.....But I've told her if she goes she can pretty much have whatever she wants.  ( she wants to go to disney world, wants a puppy or kitty ) I've told her that's fine she just has to go potty!   We see her cousins a lot and they are a year older than her, They've even tried to help and ask her why she doesn't want to go and she just ignores them.  There are times when she goes I ask and tell her I need to check and she runs from me.

She needs to start school soon and they won't let her if she's still in diapers.   What do i do now?!?  I can't bring myself to buy my almost 4 year old depends because she just won't potty trian.

Oh that's the other thing now the imgainary friend (stephanie- from lazy town) is telling her she's too small to go on the potty!!!!!!!! At that point I told her to tell stephanie that her mommy say's no it's time to be my big girl.

It is quite possible to get kids' diapers in larger sizes than would fit a 4-year-old.  My nephew is still sleeping in a night diaper, and he is 6 and a pretty tall kid.

I react to your post by thinking that you sound like you are pushing your daughter on this a lot, because you want to save money and because you are tired of changing diapers and want her to change so you won't have to attend to this.  And she is saying by her actions, "Don't push me," and maybe even "Did you notice that I have a 7-month-old rival for your attentions?"  Does she get your attention in general, or is this the easiest way for her to get it on a busy day full of work and baby?  Maybe it would be a profitable line of experimentation, to give her some attention when it's not about potty training and diaper-related moments, and see where that goes.  Right now, she might get your undivided attention at other times, but it sounds  like the one time she is CERTAIN of your undivided attention is when she is being changed.

My son will be 3 in January and has almost no interest in potty training. He will sit on it, but still not comfortable going in it.  We have just completely and totally backed off and are allowing him to go at his own pace.  I have spoken to his pediatrician, and she agrees that this is the best way to work on it.  He knows where it is and what it is for.

I agree with all that AnnieBrooke says.  When kids are pushed, especially toddlers, they will push back.  She might be afraid of it (my son worries about falling in) or may just be reacting to feeling pushed.

I would just let it go.  She'll get there.  And at 3 it is certainly not abnormal to still be in diapers.

I tend to agree with AnnieBrooke, it may be an attention thing. She may be jelous of the baby & feels this is how she can get more attention. Try having some kind of fun time just you & her. Ask her what she wants to do for a whole day & don't mention potty training at all, just change her when she needs it. I know when my little one doesn't get enough attention from either me or her daddy she finds ways to act out, & it sounds like she is doing exactly that.
