I don't think my daughter has ADHD

by ashdoes, Mar 09, 2009 12:09PM
My daughter is five, she's in preschool for a speech delay, that's almost gone. At the last parent meeting the teachers brought up some "issues" that i don't really think are a problem. When its time for stations, if my daughter wants to do a certain one, but they want her to do a different one first she gets upset. Or when she's in speech and they're playing a game, once her turn is over she kinda turns and finds something else to do till it is her turn again. She's not hyper active or anything like that, i just think its her personality. I also think maybe its just that she's five. I don't have a huge problem with her at home, the biggest thing is we cut sugar, cause that makes her a little crazy. Any advice, or thoughts would be helpful. Just kinda want to know if anyone elses five year old is kinda the same.

Personally, I think very few kids are ADHD and it is getting diagnosed far too much in the US.  Some other countries do not even believe of the diagnosis of ADHD and ADD in children.  I worked in outpatient mental health and of all the children that were seen I believe only one had ADHD.  I think she's 5 and she has her own personality.  Children are not little robots, they are children.  How many years have these teachers been teaching?  I find the best teachers are the teachers that have teached for 34 years or more.  You know your daughter best. Good luck dealing with her teachers.

I actually think her teacher is pretty new. I really like her, but its almost like she doesn't know that kids have there own personalities/opinions. For like a week after she told me this stuff i was worried sick i was gonna have to put Paige on meds. And then it hit me, i don't have a problem with what she does, and i deal with in on a daily basis. I'll take her to the doc, so i can tell the teacher i did. Thank you for replying.
