I need help

Hello,

I have a 5 year old son that is deliberately stealing and lieing at home and in school. He knows he will get caught, but time and time again he repeats this behaviour. I have to talk to him every day at home about stealing things behind my back, whether it be food, pens, craft items or something he thinks is interesting. At school he is caught stealing toys, markers, craft things, and today he tried to steal something his teacher brought into class that belonged to her daughter. I don't know how to approach this without being upset. I give him time outs, talk to him and take things away, but so far nothing is working. I have even made him write an appology letter to his teacher when he took something home in the past. Is there something more to this behaviour than him just being disobedient?

Is he on any meds for anything ? What does he say when you ask him why he takes things , I feel there is something else going on in his life has he any siblings . is his Dad around could you enlarge on the dynamics of the house.

My son somtimes comes home with his pockets full of paperclips, like he likes to collect things.  I am not sure what to think of all this, but keep reinforcing it is not good behaviour.  I wish I could tell you more.
