Is My Daughter Depressed

by sl4498dl, Oct 01, 2008 05:02PM
My daughter is 9 years old and I am concerned that she may be depressed. She breaks down and cries at least once a day now. When I ask her about it, she says she doesn't know why she is crying. This has been going on for awhile but seem to be happening more often now. She says that she just starts feeling sad and starts crying. She also get frustrated with things easily now. Should I be concerned?

Does she have brothers or sisters?  Is she having problems at school?  There are a lot of factors into this. I would say figure out exactly what's going on, and try to address it.  If there is nothing specific, dont be too quick to put a clincal name to it, she's only 9. I am currently in the D.O program and believe strongly that medications should be a last resort.  They do damage as well as good.

Seems as if your daughter is upset over something perhaps ask her again and ask pertinent questions how school is doing , has she friends, if she has siblings do they get on, it does sound that she is reacting to something. Does she get plenty of positive attention, lots of outside activities.Sports,

There is something going on with your daughter whether it be depression or something has happened and she is having trouble telling someone. Children can experience true depression so I wouldn't rule it out. I would start with therapy. A good therapist can help her learn how to deal with her feeling and also teach her how to express herself. You can be the best Mom in the world and your child can still need outside help. Hang in there.

Is your daughter suffering from depression?  Only a medical health professional can diagnose that issue.  I think that is the first place to start - at the doctor's office.  If depression is the issue, then treat it.  If it is some other issue, then find out what the problem is and try to deal with it.  But first, you need to determine the "problem".

Another thought perhaps she is pre hormonal it is not unusual for girls of this age to reach puberty and that could also cause symptoms of depression and emotional issues
