Is it a misscarriage

I got my period the day after the last time I had sex with my boyfriend, then about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks later I was bleeding again for about 4 days it was heavy on and off and it was thick and brown and clotted, which is not usual for me. Could this have been a misscarrige?
