awww I am sorry its tough ...as I said you just keep going , combing and brushing and washing, its very hard work ..its possible someone else at daycare has lice and she gets reinfected does the teacher check all the kids ?
When people say try this and that I say I've done it give me something new....my daughter turned 3 Jan 2012, it is now April and I have been fighting lice since Dec 2010 just when I think its gone here we go again. I have done ALL over the counter....2 different prescription lice shampoos.....mayo, olive oil, vinegar, Apple cider vinegar, yogurt, egg, lotions, campho phenic......I rarely wash her hair and after I wash it I just turn around and put gels and hair spray in it.....I have put plastic over beds and pillows......I have even moved yes moved to stop them and did not bring a thing into the new house till treated.....she is stingy w them too no one else she's ever around gets them....today I have spent another 5 1/2 hrs picking through her hair by hand which is record timing its usually 7 hrs or more.....I vacuum I spray I wash....they have no stuffed animals left and I'm so close to taking away blankets and clothes lol.....I have chopped off her hair.....I've done everything short of shaving her head or kerosene .....and as I said today I have fought lice again.....it won't go away and I am at a loss.....she has already had one daycare drop her for head lice.....pls someone help me.....
Try to do without the lice shampoos they are really not a 'good thing ' try the combing and cleaning way ...good luck
thanks so far so good! I called her friends moms and told them to check their kids hair. And also decided i am taking her to get a hair cut because her hair is terrible the lice shampoo chemicals gave her dry scalp and split ends and my other four kids are also getting checked tonight and treated anyways!
Sounds like a plan disneymom. Make sure to take that comb all the way to the base of her scalp as the little things often attached right there. good luck
I just found out her gymnastics coach had it soo she isn't going back until its taken care of. Yes i have got all new combs and a new book bag and every day I wash her coat. And she said she did hug the girl that same day so her hair might of touched her hair... And she isn't going until Wednesday because i am doing everything to her hair! I am even considering letting her get blonde highlights! And thank goodness she is so tall her hair doesn't touch the car seat or I would have to scrub three cars! And earlier today I was doing the conditioner thing and I have got rid of some of those bugs! I'm going to do this every two hours and right now all her clothes , bed stuff and book bag is in the washer and combs are soaking in bleach! Right now she is sitting out on her balcony with my mom( a retired nurse ) getting a second treatment!

in addition to all of the other good advice, make sure you look at her locker, gym locker, where she puts her coat, etc. Lice do not jump, so the fact that the student in front of her shouldn't matter unless she was making contact with her, or if their clothing or backpacks somehow touched. Have you also treated her backpack?
Since no one else in the house has it, you can probably assume it comes from school or gymnastics. Have you spoken to the gym where she has gymnastics about it?
Also, how often do you use the nit comb? I have heard from parents in my class that it is a very time consuming process, taking some hours each day. But it is important to do it frequently when you discover lice to make sure that there are no nits.
I am so sorry you are frustrated. As a teacher and a parent, I appreciate your efforts to prevent the spread. I am sure you are very aware that this has nothing to do with your cleanliness.
The headrest in the car seat where she usually sits - or ever sits - needs to be fully scrubbed also.
Best wishes.
What valuable information you have provided! I hope this helps the poster. Do you know if she could make an anonomous call to the school to report lice so that if another child has it and it is being past around----- if this could be done or if she has to state her name? I'm just thinking if she saw it on another child, there may be more in the classroom and it will continue to be passed around. Anyway, appreciate your insight.
And it is a fact the little devils do not like being disturbed, so comb , comb and do it as much as you can ..also washing the covers etc all the time ..I have seen this one cracked a few times .by persistence ..good luck
I used to work for the county health department and went to homes to try and help parents. I want to tell you this is a nursing intervention not a medical intervention. We used white vinegar to clean the hair with nit comb. It took a long time. 1/4" inch sections at a time. Especially around back of neck and ears. Wiping the comb with different sections of a large towel each time. The Mayo was coated on the hair (all I saw was white and covered with plastic shopping bag and pinned shut with clippy. This was kept on hair for atleast 1 hour of not a little more. Then washed. This was repeated every 7 days for 1 month. Each time all linens were washed in hot water again, good vacuuming and all stuffed animals were bagged in tight trash bag and placed in garage or outside. They were left for a month also. Car was vacuumed. I am so sorry! This can be a frusterating mess. You may have already done this route. I wish I had more to tell you. Although, it was not a nursing thing, I thought they had a pill but we did not use because it was harsh to children and only used as last resort. All new combs and brushes. Soak brushes and combs in vinegar each couple of days and then wash with hot water. I wish you the best.
I have had her hair cut to almost above her shoulders and she is a gymnast and likes to have her hair in a pony , braid , bun etc. I took her to the doctors but they said everything I have tried should've worked! I have tried the kits and the nit comb didn't work when she goes to softball or gymnastics I make her have her hair in a tight gel mess and only let her use her helmet. I have contacted all her teachers about lice they said no one has got it and I have contacted her coaches and friends families no one has it..? She has a cat i have washed the cat every 3 weeks with lice killing for animals took her cat to the vet they checked it had no lice! I don't have it I even make her straighten her hair on a very hot level and blow dry it on the hottest temp. didn't work tonight I am combing her hair with normal conditioner I hope it works!
Typically the pharmacy sells a kit---- which includes a gnit comb and therapeutic shampoo. Are you going through your doctor to treat this? It is my understanding that you have to use that gnit come to have success. Clothes, bedding, pillows have to be washed in HOT water. And I'd get her hair cut as short as she'll tolerate it.
Also, you need to let the school know. Even if you do it anonomously. Otherwise, it is in her classroom. Our school sends a letter to the entire school if lice is found in a classroom so that everyone is aware and can check their own kids. It really cuts down on it. And moms of kids with long hair will have that hair in a pony tail or braid so they are less likely to pick it up. But the school needs to know to ultimately work on stopping the problem. good luck
