Landau-Keffner vs. Sensory Integration Dysfunction

My 30 month old has been recently diagnosed with SI dysfunction. Most days he is very active, seeking input, especially deep pressure. There some days he stares off into space as if deep in thought. It is possible he is having occasional seizures? What type of seizures do you see with Landau-Keffner Syndrome? If his loss of speech at 18 months is due to LKS: what might the prognosis be for normal speech.

Yes, it is possible that your son is experiencing seizure activity. It would be sensible to obtain an evaluation by a pediatric neurologist.

Relative to the speech/language issue, it's not really possible to issue a prognosis about this. Children vary greatly relative to the extent to which they eventually develop their speech and language abilities.

we also have a 30month baby girl who has si problems.  she also stears into space .  we asked a dev ped if they where abscent siezures she said probally not what happens is that si kids will get overloadede and cant proccess all info they recieved as quickelly as they recieve it, whick makes the, blank out.   her nuerologist has also suspected LKS  but only because of her auditory agnosia(word deafness).  she started to have problems after her first generalized siezure at 16 mo of age.  it was like she hit a wall and her launguage was the same at 24mo as it was at 16.  finally after 6mo of speach 2-3 times per weak and earlly intervention.  the thing with LKS is most not all kids dont develope symptoms until after at least one siezure and they also have autistic behavior at times.  i would ask your docter for a nuero eval and maybe see a dev ped he may just have a developmental delay,  which can be helped by early identification and intervention.  good luck.
