Last Year Our Son was Borderline Aspergers

Hi, since our son was 2 it became apparent by the nursery that something wasn't right, he is 7 years old now and still has the following:

The need for a strict routine and totally not coping when we change it.
Not keeping friends and prefering his own company
Dislike of crowds, hair cutting or washing, brushing of teeth, having feet measured
Getting angry and writing all over our walls in the house and recently his bed sheet
Getting upset when people look at him, point and even smile
Throwing himself on the floor when people brush against him and thumping himself in the head
Superb with memory and advanced in maths
Hiding under chairs and behind tall objects to avoid joining in
No imagination and lining up cars all facing same way (when one is removed he throws a tantrum)
Specific foods to eat
Everything has to be on his terms
No concept of danger and no respect for authority

The list is pretty endless and he already has formal diagnosis for Dyspraxia and ADD, he is also fructose intolerent and can't take flavoured medicines, asthmatic, suffered bad from bowel problems from being a baby and has excema.  Last year he was tested for aspergers and he had numerous ticks but not enough for diagnosis so we are going through all assessments again.  What are the chances if he hasn't improved this year but got worse with age that he might have Aspergers or are there any other conditions he may have?

Thank you.
Has he got a Statement yet? I suggest that you apply for one.    Have you applied for Disability Living Allowance in his own name?          My daughter went to a college called Farleigh college of Further Education at Frome, run by The Priory Group. I dont know what the youngest are,  who they take on.

After 5 years of exhausting tests and endless hospital trips we finally had our diagnosis last week.  Our son does have ASD Aspergers syndrome as well as ADHD and Dyspraxia.  He attends a main stream school in the UK and we have been given some details of support groups we can contact.  Our worry is when he goes up to high school but I guess he will cope with the help he gets from a young age. I am pleased your daughter is doing so well, if there is any advice or tips on websites or places to go to we would be grateful to hear from you.

My daughter was first diagnosed with OCD at the age of about 12. Five years later she was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, getting that diagnosis  and with it the appropriate help and support, she was able to go to a Specialist  Aspergers College, and is now at University.         We live in UK.  The OCD diagnosis was after a thourough assessment at a Child and Adolescent Mental Health unit of a big city hospital.  As the Doctor above says, it is likely that there are more than one condition. Send me a message if my experience is any help to you.

Your description indicates that your son likely displays several conditions, among them some condition along the Pervasive Developmental Disorder spectrum (Asperger's is one such condition). Clarity of diagnosis can be difficult when children display a number of concerns, but it is important to reach clarity in order to develop a sound plan for intervention. A comprehensive evaluation is called for, one which takes a look at the broad reach of his development in the cognitive, emotional, social and physical domains. Generally the best venue to obtain such a comprehensive evaluation is a full service pediatric hospital, and that's the direction in which you might turn.
