Masterbating

My child, who is now 3, has been rubbing on herself and other things since she was 2.  It is very disterbing and she knows to go to her room or do this in private.  Her father, grandmother(s), and I tell her to STOP all the time.  It started when she would go to bed, but now it is all the time.  She will hunch on a pillow, blanket, or just rub herself.  We have asked her pediatrician about this, she says it is normal.  Like I said, it is very disterbing and I would like to know how to make her stop.

I wish I had the perfect answer for you here, but I am in the same boat as you are. My daugher is almost 3 and doing the same thing. I don't know how to make her stop either. I have been concerned on a number of levels because its so disturbing and it just doesn't look right when I take her out in public and she does it. Society typically jumps to the opinion that most kids who do this so young must be victimized in some way...but its so wrong! Some kids just discover it early. And if what they discovered down there feels good, its hard to turn their attention away on to something that is less embarrassing for the parent. I wish I had an answer for you, but I have tried so many things to make her stop and now I am at a loss too. Maybe someday they will grow out of it. I hope I hope I hope....
