I am a mother of an adhd and odd 8yro boy at this time he is taking vyvance, tenex, and respadol and I am still having tons of problems he is a very angry, disrespectful, violent little boy. He lies, steals, and curses at most people he interacts with. I have tried everything and I am at my wits end. I am so afraid he is going to wind up in trouble with the law very soon. I really need some help! Please I love my baby and my heart is breaking daily
A related discussion,
clonidine for odd was started.
My daughter is 3and 1/2. She started taking tenex 2 weeks ago. I still see hyperness but that is when she is close to needing the 2nd dose. She has anger at such a young age. She has a new brother (8months. I am so worried she is going to do something to him. She is very impulsive. I don't know if the tenex helps with the anger and frustration. I can't figure out if she is angry because of coping with daily life and it is difficult for her or if she is angry at my husband and I or even her brother for being born. My daughter definately has some ODD and ADHD. Her doctor said that she is still young but sees the attention span is very little compared to other 3 year olds. She actually played a whole game of Chutea and Ladders and there were no tantrums or attention diverted to other things in the room. I give TENEX the credit on that.
My daughter is ADHD. We did behavioral therapy for several years, but then gave the medication a try. The nice thing about trying medication is that you can STOP taking it if it is not working out. We continued it because MY DAUGHTER wanted to. She was able to remember things she wanted to remember, and her grades in school improved. Better than that, she told us that she understands it (most schoolwork)now, when she didn't before. The medication is not just because the schools like them to sit still. When a person is hyperactive, they often can't pay attention to something long enough to learn it. This includes every day living and social skills, as well as school work.
hi every1...!
i am 14/15 and have been been told by " some " doctor that i have a case of adhd...
my mum seams extreamly willing to put me on ritalin<<<? what is it and whats it side-affects and plz can some1 give me addvice on why i should go on it and whats bad about it......becuz what i have been told it feels to me as if i`ll lose something of my self?????
If you think that overall his functioing is enhanced by using only the Wellbutrin (which, by the way, can help w/ADHD symptoms as well as mood), it might be wise to start the school year on only the Wellbutrin and see how he does. Talk the idea over with his prescribing doctor.
I have a 13 year old son who took ritilan since he was 5 then when behavoir changed 6 months ago was put on adderall. He was still angery so Dr. put him on wellburtin which seemed to help with his attitude some what. Now that hes home from school for summer I have taken him off addrerall and hes much better expect for the hyperness Not sure what to do with him when school starts up in the fall. You know the schools like them to sit and be still. He is very oppositional but he is also a teenager. Any suggestion?
I havent heard of Clonidine for adhd or odd. Isnt it for high blood pressure? What does it help with?
Clonidine and Tenex are both antihypertensives that, in small doses, tend to ameliorate some symptoms of ADHD, promote sleep, and lessen the frequency/intensity of anger. While Clonidine is most often prescribed in children for the latter two reasons, it is employed to treat ADHD when the stimulants are not successful or produce side effects that are not tolerable.
For children who do not prosper on the stimulant medications, Clonidine can actually be helpful (not only to address tics). Also, it may be worth trying Strattera, a non-stimulant alternative to treat ADHD. By the way, even with children who take stimulant medication for ADHD and who also display oppositional traits, Clonidine is often recommended.
