Mixing up colors

My son is 2 1/2 yrs. old.  He is very smart.  He was 3 1/2 mos. premature and had to have laser surgery for ROP.  My question is, he knows all of he colors, numbers, shapes, etc., but he mixes up the colors of green and blue.  I've asked his therapists about this and they say not to worry because most 2 yr. olds don't even know their colors.  He's not scheduled to see his opthamologist until April.  He really only mixes up the primary green and blue, not if it's like a bright green or light blue.  Could he have some color blindness in this area of color due to his ROP?

Dear Heather,

In a general sense, I very much agree with your son's therapists. There's no reason to expect he'd know his colors by now. Having said that, in light of the description you offer (i.e., he is able to discriminate some greens and blues), I would mention this to the ophthalmologist.
