My 11 month old won't stop screaming

My son is 11 months old and recently he has started screaming at the top of his lungs for seemingly no reason.  The only thing that makes him happy is if I let him run loose to explore the living room or kitchen.  Those rooms are not baby proof and he does not listen to "NO" when he tries to get into things.  So i'll put him in his room which has a gate on the door and many toys on the floor for him to play with, but he will just sit by the door screaming/crying non stop.  He also screams bloody murder while trying to feed him and when he is riding in the car.  I have read blog posts where this is common in 2 year olds, but my son is not even 1 year old yet.   He will sit there and scream even after being fed and changed and given gas drops and orajel.  He is walking but not talking yet.  If anyone can think of something that I can do to make him stop screaming, that would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about his not talking - he's too young to expect that he would be talking. Your description indicates that the problem is 'behavioral' in nature. That is, his discomfort (expressed via the screaming) is in response to his wishes/comfort being obstructed. Your time out idea is OK. Just be sure he can see you when he is in time out - it is very frightening to children so young when they are placed in time out and cannot see their parent or other caretaker.
