My 19 month Old not talking or communicating

My son just turned 19 months old and he doesn't speak at all...not even to say mama or milk or anything at all.  When he wants something he just cries ad cries and I have to try and guess what it can be.  According to the time it is I know if it's a diaper change or if he's hungry.  He barely responds to his name.  He doesn't follow directions at all.  I am very worried.  He is my 2nd child, my 1st child is a 6 year old girl who is extremely advanced.  Talked at 6 months and walked by 9 months.  What should I do?

I am no expert. However, I have been working with infants and toddlers for 6 yrs. First of all please realize that every child develops at different rates and the "time tables" given are based on averages. I think maybe you should talk to his pediatrician. Also you may want to contact a resource like BabyNet/Easter Seals(I'm not sure if this is the same in all areas) to get an evaluation. I hope this helps and I wish you the best.
