My 2 yr old Son

by Hazel30, Mar 20, 2007 12:00AM
Hi I have 2 questions about my 2 yr old Son.

Q 1.  He is 26.5 months and just started going through speech therapy once a week.  His problem is that he drops the last sound of his words.  Such as baw for ball, caw for car, wea for wet, bay for bag.  He just started to make two word sentenses.  Has large vocab.  Understands 2 languages.  Knows 5 colors and shapes.  Basicaly a bright little boy.  My question is:  is this something serious that does require speech therapy.  He is not in preschool and not around kids too often.  Maybe once a week when I have off work and hang out with my friend and her 2 girls.  My insurance only covers upto 60 days and dont know if he requires more afterwards or not.  His speech therapist said he pretty much right on  target with speech except the dropping in the last sound in words.

This does not sound like a serious problem, given his age. The therapist is reassuring you, and you can accept his/her reassurance at face value. The coverage should be plenty for the problem he displays.

Q 2.  We began potty training 2 weeks ago and he is doing great with num1.  He was pee pee trained in 2 days and no accidents.  My only problem with him is for him to go num2.  While in dipers he used to go several times a day and now goes maybe once a day or every other day and when he goes every other day it seems to hurt him because he doesnt want to sit on the potty and holds it in.  So far he's gone num2 in the potty maybe 4 times and thats when I cought him trying to go in his pants.  He understands that he must go in the potty and tells me majority of the time that he has to go but for some reason is afraid to go and maybe afraid to go in the potty for num2.
I think he is afraid of the pain when he goes because he holds it in for so long.  Any suggestions.  Also sometimes when he goes he says out loud like "bad khaki bad"......I dont know if hes under immpresion that going doing num2 is bad or not.  Because of him not really fully talking and exprssing himself I think makes it a little difficult for me to find the reason as to why he feels like this.
Thank you

Are you using a Potty Chair or just a potty Ring?  I used the ring with my boys it was easier for me--and then I think they get used to sitting on the potty and it is not as scary for them----also does help a little bit for when you are out and about and need to use the big potty in a store.  Remember the potty is a big step and it may scare him if he is sitting on it thinking he is going to fall in or that he will be flushed away.

Try a reward system for the poop--my little guy loves bubble gum--actual the concept of going to the store and using his money--it works we have only had two poopy accidents in about 6 months and one was when he was sick.

How old is your little guy?  I think my son is too little for those type of rewards.  We use marshmelows, he loves them.  But still doesnt work because I think it actualy hurts him.  He starts screaming Mommy poopy poopy and buy the time we go to the toilet or potty he stops and wants to get off.  We use both potty and toilet.  He pees both standing and sitting depends where we're at.  He still naps in a diaper so thankfuly sometimes he goes while he naps otherwise he would be very backed up.  When he is backed up he tells me he has to go potty and tells me that he has boo boo on tummy.
I dont know how to help him.  Also, when it gets to that point where I know he really has to go but holds it in.  I give him a few sips of prune juice and then eventualy he goes on potty because prune realy makes you  go.  Or I give  him pediasure with fiber that also makes him go fast.
