My 3 1/2 wakes everynight and wont go back to sleep in her room

My 3 1/2 year old who has always been a terrific sleeper, has started getting up at night and not going back to sleep. We used to put her down around 9 and then wake her around 11:30 to take her to tinkle.  The dr told us to stop giving her a cup of water to go to bed with.  Now she wakes by herself around 11-11:30 to go to the bathroom ( even though there is no water at night time) and then at beteween 1-3 she awakes crying and want to come sleep in our room. We put our foot down after 2 nights( we first thought it is a nightmare) then it has been happening for the past 1 month now.  She refuses to stay in her room without a light on in the hallway ( our compromise) and in her room too.  I gave her a personal kids  flashlight to keep with her in bed, and still we have trouble.  She still comes in our room wanting to sleep there, we walk her back-- screaming crying. etc SHe has 2 nightlites in her room and 1 in the hallway. She used to want the door closed ( fear of mushy cake coming in(?)) NOw the door has to stay open.  By the way. No trouble getting her to bed at 9
Everynight was have a horrible time. We try to keep the yelling down beacsue we have a 20 month old too. PLease any advise is appreciated

Stick to your plan, be persistent, and this will be fine. You have made a change in her routine, and it will take a bit of time for her to make the adjustment. Remember, you 'taught' her to rely on her cup of water, and now she has to make a change. Be patient, respond with equanimity, but don't defer to her wishes.
