My 4 year old doesn't want to listen in class, why is that?

My 4-year old just started Kindergarten this year, and his teacher told me that he keeps covering his ears when she asks him questions. He never does that before, and it worries me that people might think that he has a mental problem. He's always been quick to learn, he can speak properly at the age of 2, every time he comes home from school he remembers what he learned. The only problem is, in class he always covers his ears. I know he'll cover his ears when there's thunder or heavy rain because he's afraid of them, but I question myself, why in class does he do that...? Please help me...

From worried Mom.

Maybe he is overwhelmed adn that is his way of coping with it.  It deadens the noises some.  How is he doing otherwise?

Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. Maybe he has sensitive hearing and doesn't like the noise of a bunch of people talking. Tell his teacher not to bug him about it. It is merely a harmless peculiarity.
