My 8 year old lies and steals

by jessie0103, Jun 29, 2009 08:16AM
My son knows right from wrong he is a very bright and beautiful child. We take him to ball games, fishing, family outtings to the local parks everything. But it is almost impossible to deal with the fact that he gets up in the am very early some times at night and wakes up his brother. Then raids the kitchen (like a bear) eating anything sweet he can find. Getting in to everything. If i leave the room for 5 minutes he stills money from our wallets and hides it. And today he was caught by his dad trying to purchase a game online using his dads bank card. Any ideas on why with everything that we do with him, he would still be doing these things? Please help me I am lost not knowing what to do about the theft and the lack of self control that he has. Thanks

What kinds of punishments have been implemented? Groundings? Taking things away the he really cherishes? Making him earn back things? Time outs? Kids generally do things to get attention. They usually do not care if its good attention or bad attention. Have you asked him why he's doing these actions? Have a heart to heart with him and see what he says or does. Maybe he just wants one on one attention. I don't know. Maybe a gentle reminder of what happens to people who steal will help.
