My 8 year old wont stop hitting

I have an 8 year old grandson, he is extreamly helpful but when he feels he is being teased he hits, and he hits hard.We have taken things away, we have grounded him and we have made him sit at the table and write "I wont hit" 50 times, but he still does it. He also pouts alot and has to be right all the time. we dont know what to do any more as for as disipline.

May I ask who it is he hits, and has he seen this behavior in the family does anyone hit him ? Pouting wont hurt you can ignore that one ,what is it he lashes out over, what would happen prior to the behavior?

Margypops, he hits his sister. An yes my daughter divorced there dad due to abuse. We have never hit and have explained to him him it's never ok to hit or to be hit. I know he feels belittled when people laugh at things he does, but they are laughing becouse it's funny not to hurt him. It' hard to play board or computor games with him becouse if he's not the besthe gets mad and pouts and wont play anymore, so we will tell him thats ok you dont have to play, well then he has a tizzy. On the other hand he is very smart, helps with things around the house when asked, he loves to help me cook or bake and do anything more the most part. I also forgot to mention he has been lying aslo, he will lie about anything, he knows he will be grounded but still does is.

Laughing at things he does may be construed as laughing at him, how old is his sister could he be feeling left out and it creates some jealous feelings .Focus on his positive side and prase him when you see him doing something right.If he saw any physical abuse that may be the reason he hits out, children learn from what they see in the formative years.Some patience from his family ,possibly less laughing 'at things he does' may work wonders .Good luck
