My child seem to be a "destruction" in school

by andreilouis, Jul 10, 2008 07:54AM
he is a 5.3 y.o boy, seem to be genius coz he can tell you d sentence(more than 5 words)you just spelled right away.Started reading properly at 3.5 yo, able to play properly w/ interactive learning cds like jumpstart. started  singing following lyrics in video-k. at 4, he can search the web like diseases topics,(can tel u the body system and explain to you with a clay model he will mold) u-tube laughs, solar system and can tell you what a lunar eclipse is.(he saw it happened and did not listen to my explanation, instead he opened the computer and search it in the encarta and told me "this is what a lunar eclipse dad!" he can add 2digit numbers mentally, and draw things he is interested of like logos he saw outside the house/schools, like thomas d tank engine when he watched it thru utube; he is now in kinder II but always destructing the school as her teacher says.he only gives 20-30 min attention to the school lesson out of 3 hours school time, and after that keeps on roaming around the class insisting he wants to do other things like drawing the spider while its making its web, etc..HE DOES NOT FINISH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES LIKE TRACING LETTERS, but IN THE HOUSE, HE CAN STAY MOR THAN 2 HRS WATCHING DISCOVERY CHANNEL LIKE THE LEANING TOWER OF PISA; GLOBAL WARMING, ROCKET LAUNCHING,ETC..sometimes, he is out of the class talking to highschools explaining a lot. how can he behave in his class? should he be given special attention to finish a task n his grade level? He always wants to play with classmates inside the room disturbing them while learning. what can you recommend? Thank you!

I have a son like this - only he is very shy and wouldn't disturb the classroom because he didn't want to be the center of attention getting yelled at!  Instead - he would zone out and day dream.  Your son definitely is more advanced than the kids he is in school with so he needs to be challenged - are there any advanced schools for him near you?  If not - can you talk to the principal and see if there is an advanced class for him?   Don't let his curiousity/genius go to waste!

I agree with althepal39 , this is a time not to let this wonder of this child go to waste ,the curiosity alone should enthrall you, dont think iof it as a Destruction , feed it ,learn from it, you will be forever glad you did when he is a Professor ,  and you helped it happen. Make sure he gets into an advanced class and is not held back, Make sure his mind is fed at home and help him all you can. Best of luck to you both.
