My niece just turned a yr old and all she does is scream.

My niece just turned a yr old in January. She just started walking. Since November 2008 she has been doing this screaming thing. You put her down she screams. She can be sitting in the middle of the living room with everyone and suddenly start screaming like she is being murdered. The first time she did this I was visiting and she did it at 6am. She woke up and was playing with her toys on her crib and then suddenly just started screaming as I almost broke my leg to get to her...she was fine. Started laughing and smiling the second I picked her up. I mean she can barely walk still so we have to pick her up to get her up and down the stairs but, I don't know how much more of the screaming we can all take. The doctors just said "well we can't find anything wrong". I can't figure it out. She has an older brother and my other 6 nieces and nephews are constantly there. She is never alone and she just wants to scream. Once she starts she won't stop no matter how shaky and upset she makes herself she won't stop til someone picks her up.

More than likely the other children have taught her to scream, next time she has a lot of children around take a look when they dont know you are around, it sounds like learned behavior.

sounds like it's working really well for her,  Lece.  She's getting exactly what she wants every time.

With a total of 7 other children around constantly,  she's found how to get attention - by screaming.  She's found the exact pitch and volume that gets a response every time.
