My son doesn´t like to spend time with me

by Lee, Aug 26, 1999 12:00AM
I´m a working mother and my son is 1 year and 11 months old. As I´m working all day I hired a babysiter since he was born (she lives with us).

Since last week my son doesn´t want to spend time with me, he doesn´t want me to dress him, to bath him, and even to play whith me.And he always want to be with her and if she isn´t there he cryes.

I´m feeling very bad becuase I don´t know what is going on.  Could this be happening because I´m working? Should I stop working or is it a phase of his development?

Thank you for your help
Sorry for my english

Dear Lee,

Try not to take your son's behavior personally. Toddlers go through these periods, in both single-parent and two-parent families. They will prefer one parent over the other, or prefer a child care person or sitter over the parent. Then, unexpectedly and apparently without a particular 'reason', they will change their preference.

So, as long as you're giving your son loving attention as you are realistically able, you're doing fine. There's no reason to leave your job.
