My son is constantly itching his privates

My 6 year old son is constantly itching is privates.  We did take him in and they said that it was normal and that it probably gets sweaty down there.  Well I don't think it is normal, especially when we are in public places. I need to keep reminding him not to do that or to stop. I have a nephew the same age and he don't do that... Should I be concerned about this behavior, is there something that I can do, like have him try different types of underware, or use some kind of powder...

What kind of underwear does he wear?  My son's, 6 & 7, both wear boxer briefs because regular briefs were uncomfortable for them.  Are you sure he is itching or is he re adjusting?

He wears briefs and I thought about that yesterday after he came back from the doctors.  So I think I will go get some different underwear and see how that works for a while.  At first I thought he might just be re adjusting it, but then he was doing it more and more, so I finally asked him if it itches and he said yes...all the time yes... so well will do the new underware first and if that's not the case then I'm not sure what to do..
