Need help for a 4.4 year boy with potty training

by sgf1, Aug 28, 2008 01:20PM
My son is 4.4 year old and he has been going to the toilet to pee since he was 3 with no problems.  However, he has only gone poop one time since then on the toilet.  I have tried rewards, gifts, taken away things, everthing, trip to sea world, Disney, his favorate toys, but nothing works.  I am so tired and worried that he will never learn.  He never has any accidents.  He has been waring underware since 3 and never has any problems.  When he wants to poop he brings me a diaper and he goes and then he is back to underware.  He just won't go poop on the potty.  Please any suggestion or help i can use.  If i don't put diaper he will hold it for days and not go.  Then i feel so bad for him and i give in and put diaper then he will go.   If you can email me at ***@**** I would really appreciate any suggestion or help with this matter.  Thanks.

You've got to bite the bullet and stop giving him diapers. Essentially you are encouraging the very thing you say you want to stop. If you really want to achieve the goal of helping your son fully master toilet training, put a stop to the diapers. You can do this in a fun, engaging, supportive way. Identify a date (it's arbitrary) when the diapers will stop, celebrate it with a little party, and then do not waver.
