Nervous Stomach possible in 2-year-old?

Nervous Stomach possible in 2-year-old?

My 2-year-old had what apparently is an allergic reaction to an unknown substance this weekend. He broke out in hives and has been complaining that his tummy hurts. We took him to the Doctor, and he was prescribed an oral steroid and an antihistimine similar to Benadryl. The hives cleared up but he is continuing to act lethargic and fussy.

I am wondering if it is possible that his symptoms are due partly to stress, since I also suffered from a vaguely diagnosed "nervous stomach" as a teenager. I returned to work full-time a little over a month ago and am concerned that this is causing him stress and anxiety which could be either causing or exacerbating some kind of physical condition. Does anyone know anything about psychosomatic illnesses or stress-related symptoms in a child as young as 2? Any suggestions as to how I can help him?

Thank you,
Janet

No, this is very unlikely - in fact, almost not a possibility. The explanation you already uncovered sounds on target. Your experience as a teen does not really apply to a two-year-old.

Thank you Dr. Kennedy! James (my 2-year-old) is feeling better, and we just have to figure out what caused the allergic reaction. He does not seem stressed and is not complaining about a tummy ache anymore.
