Normal IQ

Normal IQ

I have a 9 year old grandaughter that has a full scale IQ of 86.  Can you tell me the normal for children of this age. Also does it change as they get older.  She was tested at 7.  It is believed she is dyslexic but we are not sure just what is going on. She struggles so in anything to do with reading, or math.  She also has many times that she will use incorrect words.  This is getting worse as she has gotten older and is no longer cute and her peers now notice. Just wondered if you have any info that might help.  Thank you Carol

An IQ of 90-110 is regarded as average (regardless of age). She is not far from the low end of that range, and if the testing is an accurate indicator of her ability it can be expected that she will struggle in school. The only way to pin down the learning disability possibility is to have her undergo an evaluation at the school, and part of the evaluation will be testing that can indicate learning disability. She will likely require special education services and it is the purpose of he evaluation to determine this.
