PRINCIPAL EVALUATION OF MY 6yr. old son

by momalex, Mar 04, 2009 12:45PM
Please HELP ME!!.. we're moving to another city so the new school asked me for (sorry for my bad english, i;m mexican but my child goes to an american school in the USA), to fill three evaluation forms (one for the teacher, another one for the principal and another one the counseler), they evaluate him (in my opinion) wishing not to be accepted in the new school.. they evaluate him in a scale of 1 Never 2 Fair 3 average 4 good 5 superior and in honesty they evaluate him a 2 (he's six.. maybe he tell some lies but isn't this a normal sign in his stage) i have been reading some psychiatrists parameters and they said that 6 yrs old live most of the time in fantasy , they also evaluated 2 in follows directions, 2 in organization 2 in reading skills (he does read.. very well every time we go to restaurants he starts reading the menus, the signs on the streets, the books he brings from school), 2 in participation (i'm always telling him to stop offering ALWAYS things to bring to events like cupcakes, etc. etc.)also 2 in discipline 2 in respect for property 2 in respect for policies and in Overall also a 2.... i'm devastated... I RECOGNIZE.. that he has a lot of energy, and sometimes he doesn't want to work or he does everything very fast so he can play or he doesn't obey to teacher always.. but is it "ethic" to evaluate as POOR in everything, while he has been in that "catholic" school for more than half his life.. he was there in montessori one year as a "visitor" because he was 2 years (he was born in october 1), then he was another year now as a student, montesori, then pre-k and now kinder. he has been going to that school for 4 years, and they rated him as POOR in OVERALL... really i'm not blind they evaluate him as average (3) in academic performance and math skills, (which for me it was a 4) because he is really smart (and his psychologists told me that), so if you are the new school principal with that evaluation form would you accept him??? I mean he doesn't break windows or skip school or hits or steal i don't think it's fair please tell me what to do.. should i talk to his old school principal? and ask her how did they evaluate him?????????????  RESPOND

At the  new school,  if they have admissions  criteria that allows them to select only excellent students who have good behavior,  no,  I wouldn't accept him with that evaluation.

Did he receive 2's from all three evaluations?

I'm as surprised as you are,  if this is the first you're hearing of this.  A child who they judge below average in all respects - both academic and behavioral - should have been brought to your attention well before this.

I think this calls for a meeting with the principal,  to understand why you haven't been made aware of this before.

Does he have a psychologist for behavioral issues?

Best wishes.  I hope you get the answers you are looking for.
